Pinocchio: Up-to-date information from the field for
effective planning production June 2004
The Pinocchio company, a producer and distributor of
textiles, has decided to equip field representatives with
the Frontman system. By scanning the bar codes of articles
from the collection in the catalogue, orders are entered
quickly, accurately and simply into their business-information
system while still in the field. This will speed up the
transmission of orders, optimise production, reduce lead
times and make it easier to plan future collections. In
addition to collecting orders, the Frontman system will help
manage sales on the road and allow the printing of necessary
documents in the field.
At the Pinocchio company they are striving to make
conditions as advantageous as possible for field
representatives, who now have to deal with a great amount of
paperwork. Information from orders and delivery notes has to
be entered by hand into the business-information system
later, creating a large amount of extra work. This is
accompanied by unnecessary time delays and possible errors (Garbage
In – Garbage Out). With the introduction of the Frontman
system, the Pinocchio company will receive an efficient tool
for supporting sales activity both in the field and back at
the office. With the help of Frontman messages, the sales
manager will continuously be able to keep track of all key
information on articles, points of sale and visits. At the
same time, representatives will have all the important
information at their fingertips about customers, stocks (warehouses
and transportation) and prices.
The Pinocchio company is aware of the importance of
rugged equipment in the field, and this is why they have
selected Symbol's PPT8800 terminal.
