DVS
software module offers high level of integration between
access control and video surveillance with web cameras. Web
camera (network camera, webcam) is increasingly popular and
affordable general purpose video surveillance technology. As a
pure "network appliance" it has a number of
advantages, like built in web access and broadcast capability,
remote administration, autonomous operation and ease of
integration.
Moreover, webcam approach to video surveillance has a
number of advantages over conventional CCTV (closed circuit
TV) type of surveillance. The main difference is that webcam
works as a streaming web server so that picture (or video) can
be acquired real-time, on demand. That way only short
"interesting" video sequences can be stored and
indexed for later use.

Although "bulk" recording and
"watchman" type of live monitoring is still
possible, the main advantage of DVS lays in the ability to
associate access control events with recorded pictures or
video sequences.
With DVS, you can easily and directly retrieve the picture
or video in relation to:
Such degree of integration is normally hard to achieve (or
costly, or both) using traditional video surveillance
technologies, either older one with analog (tape) or newer one
with digital (disk) video storage.
