United Towers

  • Industry: telecommunications
  • Company size: small (part of the larger Tawal Group in Saudi Arabia)
  • Number of employees: 7 in Slovenia (the company is newly established)

Startup owned by a corporation with a strong presence

In Slovenia, United Towers is still a young company, essentially a start-up, backed by an international corporation with a strong presence. That's why the role of Mia White, Head of Administration, is also quite unique:

"We are building a new company entirely from the ground up. So in practice, my role is quite unique. If I can help anyone anywhere in the company, of course I'm there for them."

The company develops and manages cell towers for telecommunications operators in Slovenia. It is part of Tawal, a Saudi corporation, which employs approximately 500 people. In the SEE region, the corporation operates similar companies in Croatia and Bulgaria, engaging in the same activities as in Slovenia.

United Towers currently employs seven people in Slovenia, but it is still in its early stages, having been established just a few months ago. The team transitioned from Telemach, where they had worked prior to the founding of United Towers. Naturally, there are already plans in place to grow the company.

"First I said that we would give All Hours a short trial run. We spent the first 14 days testing the system. We found it easy to use, so we decided to move forward with it."
"The accountancy firm Unija recommended the Spica solution to ensure we have the most accurate payroll data possible. We are not experts in this field, and we are still in the start-up phase. So of course we followed their advice,"

says Mia White, adding:

"First I said that we would give All Hours a short trial run. We spent the first 14 days testing the system. We found it easy to use, so we decided to move forward with it." All seven employees in our company have now been using the Spica solution for two months. By the end of the year, we expect to expand the team to at least 11 employees."

In the company, the Spica solution is used to record time and attendance. The data are exported and sent to Unija for payroll purposes.

In the meantime, with Unija's and Spica’s support, the United Towers team is already learning how to track time and attendance in the field, as they go, as well as how to set up all other time and attendance tracking details.

"We have also introduced a system to record lunch breaks. A half-hour break is automatically recorded for all of us,"

says Mia White, adding that a solution like All Hours is especially valuable because they have many other commitments to manage in the early stages of their business.

What was the reaction in such a small company at the beginning?

Mia White:

"Unija representatives have told us that the Spica solution can provide great support. But I confidently said that I would look into the matter myself. As a rule, I enjoy finding solutions on my own. I believe that is how I can learn the most.It turned out to not be complicated at all. Unija helped me with a solution for recording lunch breaks, special leave, absences due to blood donation runs, etc. Everything else I was able to figure out on my own."

Mia White says that the Spica support team has been very responsive. If needed, they quickly sent over a video or explained how to tackle the issue. All United Towers employees use a mobile phone app to track their time, while Mia White uses the online version of Spica's product, as she works in the office.

"This is what we wanted."

The average age of employees is around 45 years, yet no one misses clocking in on a terminal. Everyone is satisfied with the phone app.

"At the beginning, I stuck a note on their door asking them to clock in when they arrived at work and clock out when they left. That was enough",

Mia White concludes.

Why is it a good idea to implement the Spica solution at the start of your business?

This is the question we posed to Blaž Kržišnik, Sales Manager at Unija, who proposed the Spica solution to United Towers.

Blaž Kržišnik, Unija:

"It's best for small businesses to get used to this way of working straight away. We are therefore delighted that United Towers has chosen to use the Spica service from the very beginning of its operations."

"As companies grow, they eventually outgrow small, local or in-house accounting departments, which struggle to match the speed of service that Unija provided through digitisation and automation. In this way, every company knows exactly where it stands and no longer has to wait a month or more for its business results.

It's best for small businesses to get used to this way of working straight away. We are therefore delighted that United Towers has chosen to use the Spica service from the very beginning of its operations."

Unija also emphasizes the importance of continuously striving to develop state-of-the-art technologies that provide customers with a significant competitive advantage. This means staying alert at all times, ready to act swiftly on the information received and generate reports in less than 24 hours.

Unija’s objective is to use the technology that enables faster processing, allowing customers to convert data from submitted documents into reports within the application and predict business results in just one minute.

"We aim to be recognised for our comprehensive offer. This means that we want to provide our customers with all the information and 90% of all the services they need to run their business. We do this either independently or in cooperation with our business partners, such as Spica International. We are happy to offer its time and attendance tracking system to our customers,"

says Blaž Kržišnik.

The advantages the solution provides to new businesses:

  • human resources are saved for many other important tasks during business setup,
  • the solution's ease of use is ideal for small, new businesses,
  • the selection of functionalities is tailored to the needs of a new company,
  • Spica's responsive customer service.
